 | Age: | 21 | | Location: | Sofia, Bulgaria | | About artist: | My name is Ivan. I was born in Plovdiv, Bulgaria in 1988. At this time I am studying animation, concept art and illustration at the New Bulgarian University in Sofia. Now I am in my third accademic bachelor year and I am working on my first hand-drawn short animated movie where I practise the live-under-camera technique with soft pastels. I love classic Sci-Fi novels and fantasy books. The stream of my inspiration is fed by the enchenting compositions of ERA, Jean-Michel Jarre, Vangelis, Enya as well as and classic, jazz and space-disco. Among authors of illustrations I mostly honour Edward Lear, Frederick Back, M.C. Escher, Dick Bruna, Lisbeth Zwerger, Alexandra Ball, David Levine and other masters in this field of art. I had 10 exhibitions which took place in Plovdiv and Sofia I made some of my works participating in art plenners in Paris,Ohrid(Macedonia), Plovdiv and Sofia. Pictures of mine are bought and now possesed by clients in Bulgaria, Greece, Holland, Australia, U.S.A. My pictures are on the concert posters and the cd covers of professor Simo Lazarov-a famous bulgarian composer of electronic music.

In my third year at the New Bulgarian University I have courses like storyboarding and character design research. Along with the courses in animation I study the art and different techniques of illustration as my second specialty. I love the spontaneous world of experimenting with mixed techniques. Now I rediscover the world of collage. I like to put an element of global significance in my works. It's all very important for me to stay close to ideas that are value for preserving nature through art language and its power. I am tempted by the idea of drawing an epic or a fantasy scene for a background of a movie. I am engaged with graphic design projects like posters, book and magazine covers and concept character development as well. |
